The disparity between ability levels at a CC is REALLY high. I mean, I was able to land work as a supplemental instructor in developmental math courses for three semesters. I spent a few hours each week teaching handfuls of 18 - 40 year olds how to add and subtract fractions. In the meantime, I was a full-time student in the honors curriculum.

There I met dozens of people who've since gone on to top universities. I've kept in contact with some of them. We've all agreed: some of our honors courses were tougher than any classes we have yet to take at our new schools.

Take a look at facebook groups with titles like "D*mn straight I transferred from a community college!" and you'll see that, with the proper formula of hard work and talent, CC's offer adequate prep for a very successful academic career.
