Doing Extra to Increase Chances of Transferring

Does anyone know if taking the CLEP for a subject directly related to your major (and not to mention getting a great score on it), adds more weight to your overall appeal as a transfer applicant? In other words, would I be wasting my time if I took the CLEP for French as a Linguistics major and particularly more so given my very exceptional circumstances as a non-traditional student?
