I worked at a community college for three years - the ones who got me were the ones who were afraid to leave home or their small rural community, even after they finished school, the ones who'd been convinced by their parents that the minute they went to a residential college they'd be dragged out of the car, raped and have a heroin needle stuck in their arm ... why are these parents so afraid to let their children experience another side of life?

Good call, footballmom. In my time at a CC I met a handful of kids who'd been convinced that wandering outside of their comfort zone was equivalent to suicide. Personally, I think in most cases that kind of thinking was learned from their parents/guardians.

i'm a criminal justice major and these are the people i find annoying:

-the 30+ year old ex-cons who talk about irrelevant life/prison experiences
-the urms who can't talk about anything but how racist cops are
-the potheads who rage about drugs being illegal
-people who take the classes to find loopholes/ways around the law (jailhouse lawyers)

Hmmmm. Well, I think it's the one who never shows up for class, and when they do they don't take any notes. When we work in groups they let everyone else do the work. And then they cry and go on and on when they are told they are failing the class.

It's not their fault, but it's annoying when older people ask a million classes and make the rest of the class look bad. It's good for them to ask questions, but then the professor is just like "I wish other people would ask questions too". And I'm like uh, we really don't even know what's going on! This person clearly knows what you're talking about, so of course they have questions. We haven't even gotten a chance to digest the information yet!

How about people who ask really stupid questions to clarify what is obviously correct?

What possibly might annoy me the most is people who act like they've never sat in a class room before. I've heard some scary questions asked at my school, and it makes me wonder how these people graduated high school! I'm like wow, I learned this stuff *years* ago, how is it that you're acting like it's an alien language??? High school really failed some of these kids.

Or people who behave like they're still in high school. It's really sad when a college professor has to continuously tell students to be quiet because class has started.

What kind of stereotypical CC student annoys you most? For example:

-the know-it-all older person who goes off on spiels about his/her "life experiences," which may or may not relate to the topic at hand
In comparison to these kids that come to a mid-morning class in their fluffy pink bunny slippers and their pajamas? LOL!

In comparison to these kids that come to a mid-morning class in their fluffy pink bunny slippers and their pajamas carrying their teddy bears? LOL!

Quote:
-the older person who brings the tape recorder and/or goes through 5 notebooks; has to write down every word the professor says
And.....this annoys you?

There's no such thing as "older people making us look bad." You're either not prepared or not capable of keeping up.

Interesting. As an older student I always assume when no one else is asking questions it's because they already know it, and me being out of school for years am way behind everyone else. I guess it depends on your point of view.

I remember a classmate in a science class at my CC talking back to a teacher like we were in seventh grade. Most of the class was made up of 18-20 year olds - I hope I wasn't the only one who was embarrassed!
