| Main CC Site Temporarily Unavailable
For those of you who have been trying to reach the main College Confidential site, it has been down since earlier this morning due to a major connectivity outage at the datacenter where it is hosted. Fortunately, our CC forum data center is in a different state. The forum experienced some slowness earlier due to trying to communicate with the other datacenter, but we've implemented a workaround and the forums are now loading pages quickly.
Just in case you are saying, "Huh? There's more to CC than the forum?", be sure to check out the college admissions articles, college book reviews, Ask The Dean, college counseling, and much more. Don't miss free tools like the Academic Index Calculator and Estimated Family Contribution Calculator.

Can you explain the distinction between "talk.collegeconfidential.com" vs. "collegeconfidential.com"?
Also, why is this site accessible through the "talk" portal only (at least from where I sit :-)
When do you expect the main site to be back up and directly accessible?

talk is the forum part (this site). the latter is the main College Confidential...um...company. admissions advice, essay services, etc.

This outage has continued far longer than expected due to the data center's inability to get going. It's a long story involving multiple hardware failures, incorrect shipments, and probably human errors that nobody is owning up to yet.
The CC server has been physically transported to a new data center, and should be online later today. We are also bringing a backup server online in a West Coast data center in case problems continue.

I had communication w/ Mr. Roger_Dooley and they have worked it out until it creeps back....they have been and are working on it.
