| Record Traffic + Slow CC Site = Another Upgrade
We're aware that during late afternoon/evening (EST) hours for the last few days, our page load time has been unpleasantly long. Despite our addition of another powerful server last month (in anticipation of this surge), we are seeing record traffic levels that are stressing even our greatly improved configuration. So, our server experts will be doing a hardware upgrade and some additional configuration changes to improve our response time. Downtime should be minimal and occur at an off-hour (for US members).
Sorry about the slowness at peak times, and thanks for your support and patience!

Soaring traffic? I am not surprised. Low percentages of applicants admitted to their chosen colleges plus high levels of angst on the part of both sudents and parents equates to a record level of traffic on this site. Some of our aspiring MIT'ers should be able to do an equation that expresses these variables!
In any case, many thanks for the dedicated attempted to keep up with the crush of posters.

it's because vBulletin sucks... it's completely using eval() and stresses the server.
you need to optimize mysql by adding mysql indexes to many vBulletin tables so the queries take less time.

So.......do higher click numbers mean higher revenue for you guys? Tell us something that is good about the crush. I am happy for you and had a feeling when I saw the slowness creeping back that you had reached warp speed again......popularity is killing you huh? Hang tough.

Recommendation for next year;
Gear up for 10X increase in volume.
CC is the single most valuable resource of incredibly insight and depth of information on the web for both college bound students and parents.
I have learned enough from CC to write a book!
You can quote me.

| Maybe better than MIT's own IT dept. Their servers crashed the weekend before EA deadline. Quote: |
