How to Quote Posts - Tutorial

Hi All.

In an effort to keep threads organized, I believe it would greatly benefit people if they knew quote others. If I'm answer someone's post, it's much more organized if I have a quote of what they said, and other people will know what I'm talking about.

So here's how you quote posts.

First copy the desired post.
Next, got to the reply box and paste the copied post.
At the beginning of the post you just pasted, type: [QUOTE*]
At the end of the of the post you pasted, type: [/QUOTE*]
Remove the stars, I added them here so you could see the quote text.

[QUOTE*]Quoted message [/QUOTE*]

Remove the stars and it looks like:

Quote:
Quoted message
Hope this helps

OK, typing more text because message was too short.

Thank you! That does help.

I have to say that I can't believe it's so hard to do that. I'm really surprised that TPTB can't make it simpler. For every other board I've been on, it's been at most a 2-step process.

Yeah, a lot of forums just have a quote button by each post; hopefully College Confidential implements this soon.

I guess what's in the quote doesn't count.

In reply to the recommendations that we implement an easier way to quote, please see this discussion from a few years back explaining why we don't:

Can we get a quote button?

Thanks!

And if you want to include the name of the person who posted the words you're quoting, just add it to the beginning of the string so instead of
[QUOTE*]Quoted message [/QUOTE*]
it becomes,
[QUOTE=nameofposter] Quoted message [/QUOTE*]

example
