Text Formatting

Hello,

I've noticed that some members have been able to format the texts in their posts.
Sometimes, they change text color and are able to boldface text. How do they do it?
Whenever I post a message, I only have plain text and no formatting options. Can someone please tell me how to format text?

Thank You.

Press CTRL B and the notation for bolding appears. CTRL I for italics. CTRL U for underlining. I don't know how to do colors.

Here is the list of BB Code formatting.

To make a color of your choice - for example, fuchsia - type

[color=fuchsia]The text you want to color[/color ]

Then remove the space before the last bracket. This should produce:

The text you want to color

You can choose any normal color you want, except for white.

blue
green
yellow
red
purple
grey
pink
brown

Mainelonghorn's advice works on most operating systems, if it doesn't, then you should manually type:

[b]Value[/b ] for bold, again removing the space before the last bracket. By value I mean what you want to bold, italicize, color.

This should produce, Value

[i]Value[/i ] for italicizing, yields Value

[u]Value[/u ] for underlining, yields Value

To hyperlink: type [url=www.website.com]Value[/url ]
For example, I hyperlinked at the beginning of this post.

Emoticons:

angry face is :mad : then remove the space after the colon,
scared face is :eek :
eye-roll face is :rolleyes :
cool face is :cool :

To make a list:
[list][*]Value1[*]Value2[*]Value3[/list ]

Again, value can be whatever you want to type. Don't forget to remove the last space before the last bracket.
  • Value1
  • Value2
  • Value3

I forgot to add that for quick reference to the BB code list, there is a Posting Rules box at the bottom of each forum.

Oh my god, Thank you sooooooo much JuniorMint.
Your posts have been very helpful. The next time I start a thread I'll probably practice
the steps you told me. One thing I don't understand though is removing the spaces, can you kindly explain this better? Thank you and your hep is very well appreciated.

@MaineLonghorn Thank you very much for your response.

Sorry, I just saw your response. I apologize for not explaining which space to remove. The "space" can be between any part of the formatting sequence, but once it is removed, and the sequence is uninterrupted, the coding will take effect. I will explain it in a different way than before.

For example: to italicize the word 'this', you would write

[ i]this[/i]

and then remove the space after the first bracket

[ i]this[/i]
^--- (this one)

I can't type the actual format without spaces because it automatically becomes...this

To explain it in a different way:

You can type [i]this[/i and then add a bracket at the end, or

You can type [i]this[i] and then add a slash before the last 'i'.

Good luck!
