CC is "Frighteningly Addictive": National Review Online

Catherine Seipp, in her From the Left Coast column at the National Review Online, wrote an article titled College Confidential.

Ms. Seipp calls CC "frighteningly addictive". We'll take that as a compliment.

What I get is that the author describes CC as an outlet for (sometimes) unhealthy gossip, and at the same time calls it addicting...

the author calls it "addicting" and is negative to it because it offers a place for people to discuss the flaws with her previous piece (and her daughter's education).

Oh yea!! I can't argue against that.. I basically spent my Junior year on this site.

Actually... this site has probably ironically helped alleviate my tensions about college, even though it is all about college!

True, that.

And though we may shun off other bad habits or lapses into recreation, we associate CC with a probably false sense of academics, thereby assigning it a higher worth and dignity that 'Grand Theft Auto' would never get.

The author seemed pretty defensive to me.

CC is one of the coolest sites I know of. It makes me feel normal--where else can I be taken seriously when I whine about a B+ in AP Calc? Also, I think it can be a very constructive community. People help each other with homework, celebrate acceptances, wish each other luck, help each other through rejections... sure, the site is addicting and some people can be sharp, but overall, CC has a very positive impact on my life.

I've posted 1,175 messages in 6 months. I've gone to this site almost everyday since I joined. I go to this site even when I've read everything worth reading. I need CC Anonymous, but this site is so useful, it doesn't matter. This is my fave site on the web. I spend more time on it then I do watching tv, playing videogames, and certainly doing homework() This is a great site, useful and fun, even though it is "Frighteningly Addictive"

It's still not cool to whine about a B+ in AP Calc No, j/k...I agree. This site was my major resource. It's a boon to everyone, especially those of us who have first-generation parents, or go to large public schools, or are otherwise alone in the application process.
