Editing posts

Why can't we edit our own posts? It seems that we may only edit our posts if they are recent, or something like that.

There's a time limit on editing, apparently. Why there's a time limit, I'm not exactly sure, because it would probably cut down on repeat threads.

Posts are editable for a few minutes after posting to correct typos. In long experience with forums, we've learned that a longer editing period lets some members go back and change posts after others have replied, resulting in threads that don't make sense. This is particularly true if a later poster points out a flaw in an earlier post.
