| Forum Software Upgrade
We'll be upgrading our software soon, perhaps as early as Sunday, July 23. The forum won't be usable while the upgrade is being performed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

According to the source code, the boards are using vBulletin 3.0.7 right now, so the next big upgrade is to 3.5.x. Quote: |

* MySQLi wrapper that adds support for MySQL 4.1.
* A database-stored thread marking system. Previous versions of vBulletin relied on a variable stored in the database, and also a cookie, to store information about what threads had been read and not read by the user. However, this information was volatile and did not keep; plus if you merely idled for 15 minutes (some forums have longer timeouts, 15 minutes is the default) this information would be lost. | AJAX allows your posts to be added and edited without having to reload the page.

It won't look much different than what you see now, but some moderation functions have been improved and customizing the board has been made easier and more reliable.

what do we, as CCers, have to gain from this upgrade? or is it only a *mod* thing?

I've seen some people type with smiles and italics and underlines. How can I do that?

We used to be able to see how many posts in a thread and who was the last poster in a thread. What happened to that? It was a useful feature.
