Going out of State

How difficult is it to get into a good college across the country? For Example i go to high school in Ohio and want to attend college in California, but from word of mouth i hear the out of state acceptance rate is very minute. Should i even apply? And what can i do to better my chances of getting in a school like UCLA?

The fight between Jimmy Carter and Albrecht Durer to win the Renaissance

There is news that Jimmy Carter and Albrecht Durer are both competing or have competed in a contest to win one million dollars. The contest is mainly in benefit to Jimmy Carter for if he can prove that he is worthy of wining the contest, the money follows. Albrecht Durer is a known Renaissance nominee or won that has been remembered with the Renaissance Era. Albrecht Durer has sure put up Jimmy Carter to the test with his key values of the past.

James Earl Carter Jr. also known as Jimmy Carter was born on October 1st 1924 in a hospital near Archery, Georgia. He was the oldest of the four children in his family of James Earl and Lillian Gordy Carter. There in Georgia Jimmy grew up and attended Plains High School. Throughout his years here he was a scholar reader and a star in both football and basketball. He then went on to Georgia Southwestern, Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a Bachelor’s for Science from the United States Naval Academy. Here at the academy, Jimmy finished 59th in his class of 820 students. This put him in the top 7% of his class. (Wikipedia Jimmy Carter) Jimmy Carter served on submarines in both the Atlantic and Pacific. His great duty and honor lead to him being handpicked by Captain Hyman G. Rickover who soon became admiral. Captain Rickover put Carter into the U.S Navy’s fledgling nuclear submarine program which later led to his role as a qualified command officer. Upon his recognition, the new Admiral asked him about his class rank in the Naval Academy. Carter told him his rank and was reaspired by this new question from the Admiral. The Admiral asked if Jimmy had always done his best. Jimmy finally gave in and replied saying that he had not gave is best throughout his years at the Naval Academy. This influence from his Admiral later made the title of his first book. “Why Not The Best”. Jimmy went on with his life and married this fine young woman known as Rosalynn Smith n 1946. With his new wife, they began starting a family by producing three sons and a daughter. Jimmy has always been close to his family and this is what sparked his resignation from the Navy. Jimmy loved the Navy to his bones but the death of his father was to strong from him to bear. This cut him from is ultimate dream in life, to command a nuclear submarine.
Once Jimmy left the Navy, he immediately picked up work by taking over and expanding his family’s peanut farming business in Plains. Being that Jimmy always had close ties with his parents he was brought up as a strong Christian. Throughout his future and current careers, Jimmy claimed that Jesus Christ was his driving force in his life. He often could show this by praying several times a day. What helped Carter stay true to his faith throughout the Navy years, the farming years, and the political years was the question that he heard at a sermon questioning “If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you”.(Wikipedia Jimmy Carter) Jimmy Carter’s father had died while serving as a state representative. Since Carter’s father’s death and his resignation to the Navy, Jimmy would occasionally consider entering politics himself. Being that Jimmy was a resident of Sumter County, this made him eligible to by traditionally handpicked to be a candidate by a small group of political bosses. By the time Jimmy had made up his mind that he wanted to run for a seat as a state representative, the situation in which the counties lied had changed. Instead of being split into just three counties, this county district expanded, adding four counties to a new total of seven. Now that there were more people, a special election was called for the first time that anyone could remember, anyone could run. Jimmy new he had a good chance because he was the largest district, his widespread in business dealings, and we was known by most of the farmers in the area due to his large peanut business.(Betsy Covington’s Jimmy Carter President page 46) This enthusiastic man sparked what was known to friends as an amateurish whirlwind campaign. Jimmy left his family at home so they could manage the warehouse while he was gone. He shook hands with thousands of people outworking his opponent. While running the whole plant business on her own, Rosalynn and the others spent their spare time phoning and writing to hundreds of names on the voting lists. Leaving no room for error, Jimmy spent prmary day going from county polls to county polls shaking and greeting anyone in sight. The night of the primary, the votes were coming in from every county in Jimmy’s favor. Only one was left, that of Quitman. The vote finally came in. Although only 330 people had been recorded of casting a ballet, 430 votes were tabulated, bringing Jimmy’s opponent to victory. The determination of Jimmy could not give up so he challenged the count and demanded that all the ballets were brought in for a recount. Long story short, the ballet box was found under his opponent’s daughter’s bed with not a ballet in sight. Due to the lying, cheating, and major vote landslide Jimmy Carter was sworn into the Georgia State Senate. (Betsy Covington’s Jimmy Carter President pages 47-49) Jimmy Carter has grown up with proper parents teaching him respect, looks out for the best for his family and the humans around him, expressing humanism. He led his campaign to victory and led the country with great confidence, the expresses leadership. His respect and his determination for success combined with his views on secular as well as religious subjects shows his well-roundedness in just about every category.

In the case that Albrecht Durer was a hero, he would have had Jimmy Carter beat. Due to the circumstances though, Durer was not an apparent hero of the Renaissance. Durer was born in Nuremberg Germany on May 21st, 1471. He was the third child of any where from 14-18 children. (Wikipedia Albrecht Durer) Lucky for historians, Albrecht became very famous by his mid-twenties so most of his life is documented. Albrecht could be categorized as one under incredible achievements. One coming from a family of 18 children and making himself known to the world is pretty incredible. He was a German painter, printmaker, mathematician and the greatest creator of old master prints. He has also traveled to numerous countries and towns including the Netherlands and Italy. (Artchive Albrecht Durer) Albrecht’s paintings reflected humanism by showing self-portraits of how men really look/ his actual look. His paintings also expressed well-roundedness by portraying the key values of the Renaissance. Despite Albrecht’s major accomplishments, he still hasn’t portrayed the same leadership, well-roundedness, and humanistic skills as Jimmy Carter.
This is to show why Jimmy Carter should win the Renaissance Contest and the money. Other than the fact that Jimmy has shown more worthy characteristics, Jimmy would not just keep the money for himself. Being the person he is, he would spread the money out to either charities or to the one’s that helped him win this great honor.

Show them why they would want to let you into their college. What benefits would you bring their school such as sports, academics or music. That and your test scores are what you should focus on
