good advice

remove the limit on the number of characters in a response.

remove the 30 second limit on searches. at least lower it.

lower the 60 second limit on posts.

i'm been a member at countless forums for many years and i've never seen these restrictions. they are just a pain!!!

ps. who cares about people who like to have high post counts. let them have it if they want it so badly. it's their waste of time.

the 1 minute time limit and the 60 second time limit for posting are kept in order to prevent posters from posting useless/irrelevant/unedifying posts. 'yeah' , 'I agree' and 'no' all of which are under 10 characters and can be typed in under 60 seconds do not add to conversations in any way and defeat CC's purpose (namely to be the best college information/discussion website) I thought the rules were ridiculous too but now I realize that they do make sense. (this doesnt stop them from being a pain but I suppose they are necessary)

The 30 second time limit on searches doesnt make any sense to me but I'm sure there's a good reason for it which I'd be delighted to hear. Anyone?

Some people use the search tool as a way to just post on the most recent fourm.

CC is really large and MANY people use it simultaneously. As any half-geek will tell you, doing a full text search on a database that large is very resource intensive (even with a system as efficient as vBulletin, which CC uses).

Hence the 30 sec rule: prevents the CC servers from grinding to a halt.
