Volunteer News Editor Position Available for Junior CC Member

Want to help out the CC Community, do some interesting stuff, and pick up an EC that isn't likely to boost your resume much? CC is looking for a volunteer news editor, and you can apply!

Requirements: You should be a junior/rising senior in high school, and an existing CC member with a history of responsible posting. Sorry, brand new or recent members won't be considered at this time. English/writing skills should be excellent, and you should have an interest in the college admissions process (beyond just your own!).

Duties: To review news stories from national, regional, and local news sources, and to post items of particular interest to the appropriate forum in CC. Also, to review threads started by CC members, and recommend particularly worthy threads for featuring within a forum or on the home page.

Time: For a regular CC member, we think this would add 15 - 20 minutes a day onto normal CC time. As with many things in life, the time and results will be what you make of it.

Benefits: You'll be helping your fellow CC members, you'll learn about the college process, and you'll gain an unusual extracurricular activity. We'll be happy to verify this if any college requests it, and we will write an honest letter of recommendation to recognize an excellent effort. And, if we have any CC gear like shirts or hats, we'll be sure to get you what we've got.

Duration: We hope this lasts until about this time next year, though obviously either CC or the individual can end the relationship at any time if desired.

Positions Available: One at this time. Depending on how things work out, we might expand this effort to include more news people, perhaps with some areas of specialization.

To apply: Please complete the application form at http://www.collegeconfidential.com/newsform.htm (Note - please check the requirements above before completing the app!)

Hmmm. Sounds pretty cool. I doubt I have a shot compared to all these other people though. No point in bothering.

Er, I applied, and I'm a rising high school senior now and (obviously) will be a freshman next year. Does that make me ineligible?

if you're a rising high school senior it means next year you'll be a senior, not right now.

Damn. Oh well. I sorta assumed rising senior meant you were rising in statistics during your senior year. Stupid misinterpretations...

This sounds like so much fun! (And remarkably similar to what I do on a daily basis. Hmm.)

I'm applying! Lucky for me, I just happen to be a rising senior ready to submerge myself in the world of college applications and admissions in less than 4 months.

Hopefully I get it (Well, obviously).

And question, how do you know if somebody has excellent writing/English skills? Do you go back and check posts to see how they write? Or I guess you get an idea from the application, huh. I see. That makes sense.

I've never worn a dress shirt before, so I have no idea what my size is supposed to be...oh well! I shall just put some random, arbitrary number that sounds right.

And when is the deadline? (Just wondering when we'll find out if we made it or not by...)
