Ability to edit post for more than just 20 minutes after post

I am just wondering why CC doesn't let people change and edit their posts to more than just 20 minute after post.
I know understand sometimes people would completely change their old posts which isn't really good.
There are some threads that post like answers or questions like the ones about common app or which college decisions are available, which would be easier to used if people can update their posts.
It would be very convenient if people are allowed to update their post and list of questions or answers and add links instead of having people read through 20 pages of threads hoping to not miss anything.

I've been doing forums for years, and while many members would use an extended edit time responsibly, I've seen many others change posts after others have replied, making the replies appear incorrect or nonsensical. In one forum, a member got mad and laboriously deleted all of his posts, which rendered some previously useful threads mostly unusable.

BUMP - in response to that, some forums that I post on have a little option below that says "this post was last edited on ______". That fixes the problems that Roger pointed out earlier. Has this option been considered? Thanks!

I'm with Mr. Dooley on this one...especially when people are debating, people will go back and edit and stuff....not cool

The problem is, a lot of College Confidential isn't a debate site, where deleting threads will make people look stupid. We're high school students looking for info about colleges, and seeing if our profile fit the college profile. And sometimes, I think it's appropriate for people to delete posts which reveal too much about them.
