How do you quote another person's post

I've seen people on this forum quote what others have written. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this.

If someone could help me, then that would be appreciated.

Thanks...

OK... so I'm going to practice here before I try on a thread that people might actually look at.

There IS an automated quote feature that we don't use - I've found that while quoting can be helpful at times to make it clear what is being responded to, it can also chew up a lot of space on the page because people quote entire previous posts. Some forums quote by default, and it's annoying to readers who have to scroll past many lines (or even screens) of redundant content.

In addition, quoting is sometimes used to "dissect" another members post and refute it point by point - that's not the kind of interaction that builds a friendly community.

As it is, quoting is easy enough when it's necessary but doesn't get used when it isn't.
