Need pointers on CC features

Here is a confession of someone who, unlike most, is pretty much internet forum illiterate. Joined CC around Jan 8. Had found it due to some google searches on college stuff and decided it actually could be good to actually be able to interact instead of just reading other people's posts.

Last Saturday, managed to produce first post. Was pleasantly surprised by the extent of the responses and support and have met some great people.

Wednesday, while in the College Visits section I discovered the Public Profile feature which has been very enlightening to see which students have or are applying to various schools and what their profile makeup. I do think some students must be messing up some parameters because you will see a student from class of 2012 who has supposedly been accepted to multiple ED and/or single choice early action school.

Thursday, I discovered "buddy list". Neat feature except I don't know if I am reading it wrong. I have not seen online the few that I have added since beginning the list.

Another question about buddy list. From last Saturday's post to Thursday, I never logged out of CC. I would have only been forced to be logged out when my computer went to sleep or when I closed it for the car ride. Does this mean that to anyone that may have put me on their buddy list I look like I sat reading the CC boards from Saturday to Thursday?

I would love pointers on how to go back to my own posts other than scrolling through looking for red stars.

Pointers on ways to mark a post which you are interested in following but have not written any comments.

Pointers on any great features that I am missing.

Any advice is appreciated.

If you go into the "community and forum" section, you will find most of your questions answered there. They will also be quickly answered there as well. Good luck!

I can't help with the buddy list; I don't use it. But I can help with a couple of other questions.

Click on "My Control Panel" at the top left of the page (in the blue bar). About halfway down on the left, you'll see something that says "Subscribed Threads". Click "List Subscriptions" and you'll see the threads you've posted in.

In the upper right hand corner of the thread, you'll see a button marked "Thread Tools." Click on "Subscribe to this thread". You can then receive notice of new posts by e-mail, and the thread will show up on your Subscribed Threads list (see above).

And welcome!

This is just going to confirm my ineptitude but

jym626 - Don't see anything called "community and forum". Found "help" under "help and rules"

Chedva - I clicked on "my control panel" and then "subscribed threads" and it says "This folder currently empty". MB I have to subscribe to my own threads to track them? I'm going to go in and try the thread tools on some of the forums.

You have to select the "discussion home" option on the left hand toolbar. It will take you to the master list of all the threads. thats where you'll find the Community and forum issues section. But warning: if you venture into the College confidential cafe, hold onto your hat. It can be wild down there sometimes!!

^^^^ That's what I thought too, fireflyscout, buit I tried it after reading the above posts and it does work. What doesn't, however, is the full list of all members (member directory).

Buddy list is confusing me. I had put in two names before which never showed those individuals on (which is possibly a timing thing) so as a test I put in the three current admins listed at the bottom of the forum. They also come up as offline. When I select buddy list i get "online" w/ nothing below and then "offline" with a list of those members I have indicated with boxes next to them. With reload and PM user buttons below that. What am I doing wrong or interpreting wrong?

I've never heard of any of these features, and I have 3,100 more posts than you in the college forums. I'd say you're doing fine so far!

Even as a Moderator, there are some features that are unfamiliar to me, LOL. I don't use the Buddy List, so can't help there.

I have moved this thread to the Parent Cafe, as it really doesn't belong in the Parent Forum, which is for discussions related to college/college admissions. smoda61, if you have found the Community and Forum Issues board, please post here and then I will move this thread to that forum.

We all have been through trying to learn the features. I remember the thrill of figuring out the smilies, bold, links etc.

Just trying to keep things neat and organized . Carry on.

2nd attempt answering. Server keeps acting up.

Andale - That would be great if you move this. I have found the C & F Board. Thanks
