Can we add a preview thread feature

On another board I frequent when you put your cursor over the subject in a forum it will give you a box with the first line in the first message of the thread. It helps a ton, as the title line often can't really describe what the thread is about. On days where CC is very busy this would mean folks could preview each thread and decide if they need to go their or not, reducing the traffic into threads by folks wondering if the title is something that interest them.

Is it possible to add this feature to this site?

We've had this feature in the past, but according to a long ago post I no longer remember, it took up too much of the server (or something like that), so they got rid of it.
