I think the real issue for me, at least, is having that quote button that doesn't seem to do anything. It has been frustrating to me to try to even find the this thread to learn how to quote.

I wonder if, at this juncture, management might want to reconsider this, other websites I visit all use a "reply with a quote" feature and its absence here is evident, on a site that is otherwise quite technologically sound. And a minor annoyance to the user, ie me.

It has been considered in the past, but the main concern is overuse. If everyone is quick to hit the "reply with quote" tool we could very well have quotes of quotes of quotes, resulting in significant redundancy of content and impaired readability.

No other forum I frequent suffers severely from such problem, and I am not aware of anything special about this one that would make the issue any more severe here than on all these other forums that utilize this feature successfully. Where it is available I find it a great convenience in posting, and understanding who is being quoted by others. I imagine most other posters who have this feature available feel the same way about it, I've certainly seen no movement to get rid of the feature where it is used. It is a routinely available, and uncontroversial, feature these days, at least where I go on the 'net.

FWIW

This forum has an unusually large number of younger and newbie users, and that is why I think management's judgment on not including a quote tool is correct. I have seen one site where that was very badly abused until that site's terms of service had to be edited to ban misuse of the quote tool.

My own "younger users" are more facile with internet use and posting in all respects than I am, but if in fact there have been a number of issues elsewhere with young users abusing this feature then I suppose that's a valid concern.
