How to ban my own account

I'm getting hopelessly addicted to collegeconfidential and I'm spending several hours per day on these forums instead of AP self-study which I really need to do and would like my account closed. However, does closing an account entail the deletion of private messages? (I'd like to keep them). Is it possible to reopen my account at a later date?

Hey, an easier solution if you don't want to be able to visit collegeconfidential for a while.

Open this file in notepad (you will have to select 'All files' in the file type field), as per the version of Windows you're using:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add this line:
Quote:
0.0.0.0 talk.collegeconfidential.com
I'm hoping you don't crave CC enough to edit the file again... until you feel ready to. Good luck with the rehabilitation.

Path for Windows XP Pro is same as XP Home... unless you change it during installation.

Could someone explain how to do that in more detail? I can't seem to find that file.

EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out.

For whoever might need this in the future - if the file doesn't exist on your computer, just create it yourself. Make sure you put the name "HOSTS" in quotes so that .txt does not get added to it.
