CC Weathers Ike (so far)

Not all CC members know it, but the data center hosting the community part of CC is in Houston. Hurricane Ike slammed that city yesterday.

About half of Houston is without electricity in the wake of Ike. Our data center switched off the utility grid at 5 AM Saturday and began generating its own power. So far, the generators are supplying clean power and fuel reserves look good.

Our technical staff monitored the site through Friday night and Saturday to keep an eye on developments, and moved some additional data offsite to allow for the unlikely event of having to bring the forums up in a different data center.

In the event of any kind of outage here in the forums, our College Confidential site will remain up (it's in Utah, well away from hurricanes) and is where we will keep you updated.

We're certainly well past the brunt of Ike, and, barring generator failures and the like, we should be in good shape going forward. (Hope I haven't jinxed us by saying that! ) I'm glad we were able to keep things up and responsive - we know how much many of you depend on your daily dose of CC!

Hoping the forums stay up - this site gets me through (with a little help from my friends!)

Sending good vibes to all in the hard hit Houston/surrounding areas and to all with loved ones in the Houston schools. Happy *here* that Rice got through it ok. To everyone without power and/or water, hope that's restored SOON!

I survived. There have been 37 confirmed death in the area though. :/ When I go outside, it looks like Hiroshima all over again. All the houses have been razed to the ground, all the cars have been tipped over, and most of the boats have flew to the other side of the delta. But don't get me wrong, Hurricane Ike may have harmed us physically, but we have not been dented emotionally. :] If I can survive three days without electricity and CC, anyone can

Glad you got through it OK, anhtimmmy... Good luck going forward.

This thread seems to have become a spam magnet, so I'm closing it for now.
