Athletic Recruiting Forum ETA

I saw that an athletic Recruiting forum is in the works - any idea when? Given that October will probably the most active month of the year for this forum (leading up to the NLI dates in November), it would be great if we could have this forum for that time period.

And even for us whose students are still Juniors, there is much to learn from this year's experience - not to mention things that Juniors need to be doing in preparation.

Really looking forward to having this forum up!

I agree. There have been a lot of good athletic recruiting threads on CC, but they get buried quickly. It sure would be nice to have them all in one place.

Ok--so how do you find this forum without going into the parents forum and then clicking the link in the "are any coaches calling your kid" subject?

If we can't find it easily we aren't going to post here--and since there have been no posts since the original posts on the 16th my bet is no-one is finding this site.

I think this thread is meant for us to encourage/prod and then jump for joy when the recruiting forum is finally a reality. Please, powers that be, the sooner the better for a recruiting forum! And thank you so much for listening to the members!

Fauxnom:

Correct - this thread is for us to plead for the creation of a proper forum. Unfortunately it does not appear that anyone is listening

...and it should've frankly already happened, since adding a new subforum on VBulletin takes... oh, maybe 10 seconds?

A few months ago, in this thread,

New Forums at CC

it was mentioned that an athletic recruiting forum would be in the next batch of new forums. Any status on this?

Yes, please, here's another vote for an athletic recruiting forum.

We've muddled our way through this process over the past two years. I would have been ecstatic to find an online bb with knowledgeable parents who were interested in the entire college experience.

The few online sources I found seemed to attract manic sport fanatic parents...and I see too much of them in real life. They're not the best source for information as there's always that underlying element of "my kid is better/more deserving/more talented/works harder...than yours." As a result, the information shared isn't always reliable.

The intricacies of playing college sports (especially when scholarship is involved) are so confusing and daunting to those unfamiliar with them.

College Recruiting

As educated parents whose child is being recruited to play sports, welcome to unfamiliar territory. I am sure you child is getting letters and phone calls (who are these people calling and what do they want?) and as parents you are trying to figure the process out. Is a bigger college better, or a smaller college, what is the colleges educational success, will they fit in, are they going to be close, what are the chances of moving forward with their athletic ability? Injuries, etc. What is the difference in scholarships and how much will I have to pay (what is the difference between Tuition and board, food, ½, ¾ and full scholarships) I know you have many unanswered questions. As a former college and professional athlete, who has trained DI athletes, you do have more options available to you to be more informed.

First it is a path that each individual family will have to take due to the variety of circumstances that each family and child faces and there are too many variables that can change the decision.

There are 3 options that I would recommend to self educate:

1) First check out the NCAA website and call them with any questions. They are very helpful.

2) Second, in which I am going to plug my FREE web site athletestrainingathletes.net (my favorite, my wife is laughing), as a parent you can actually call a college and set up training with a current college athlete under Fee For Lesson, visit the website for more information or contact the athletic compliance officer at any college (they make sure the university is NCAA compliant). At this lesson your child can train with a current college athlete and you can ask them about the recruiting process, coaches, education, etc. I will rank this pretty high because you can actually talk with the kid.

3) Second, check into your child’s conference forums. Find out the different conferences that your child may go to and access their forums (ex. Big east, Big 12, Conference USA, lone star conference, etc. Each conference has a forum in which you can go in and access their forum and you can find some parents and ask them questions. Find a parent that you can talk to on a personal level. Get their personal email or phone number in which you can talk with them outside of the forum atmosphere.

Last recommendation is to visit, visit, visit. Visit the university, talk with the kids and the best thing my mother did after I had visited numerous schools was tell me to sit down and write down a list of the pros and cons of each school. After a couple of days of thought I made the best decision in which I have no regrets. You can email me at the website with any questions, I will be happy to answer them.
Best wishes,
Brian
