Brand new annoying problem with search function

After logging in (which is still bringing me to the Discussion Home page when I wasn't there!), and then trying to search for a topic within a forum (for the first time in several days or several hours), it tells me falsely that "this forum requires ____seconds before a new search; please try again in ___seconds." Even though this is a completely inappropriate message, I humor the message and "try again" in ___ seconds. It keeps doing it, over & over, naming new wait times, regardless of their previous expiration. I am unable to search!!

Fix it, please!

We apologize for the issue. In order to better understand this problem can you please provide a list of steps you took to arrive at this error? Based on your post I assume you are trying to use the "Search this Forum" option, though I was not able to reproduce what you are seeing. Which search function options are you using?

Thanks for the feedback!

@tired already...hmmm, I can only reproduce your issue while logged out. Are you getting the error while logged into your account?

Either way, you shouldn't be getting this message, so I'll pass this one along as well. It might be related to the previous issue. Thanks again for the heads up on these!

Just so you know...I can not get the search function to work if I am not logged on. Very annoying. My experience is similar to epiphany's above. I get the "this forum requires ____seconds before a new search; please try again in ___seconds" with my first attempt at a search (which shouldn't be happening anyway). I humor 'it' and I attempt the search again after waiting more than the required time and it gives me another random time to wait, I wait, the process repeats. Totally non-functional search ability right now. If you thought it was fixed....it's not.

I’m having the same problem as Greta when I click on “new posts” and it’s been this way for about a week. I have to log on before the search function will work correctly.

I did a search and got this message:

Quote:
This forum requires that you wait 15 seconds between searches. Please try again in 16 seconds.
Hmmm..... That doesn't seem quite right.

Yeah, that is a rather ridiculous error message

Please let us know if you continue to encounter this message while doing searches on the site. We are aware that these issues tend to occur while the visitor is logged out. Thanks!

The problem continues. I am still unable to use the search function unless I am logged on. It does not matter if I am trying to search be keyword(s) or by username. I get the "this forum requires that you wait 15 seconds...." message with the very first search attempt and whether or not I wait the required time or more before trying the search again, the error message repeats with random "please try again in ____ seconds".

I hope you are able to figure this problem out soon. I really don't want to log on every time I want to search the site and will be disappointed if that ends up being the solution.

Thank you! I was able to use the search function without signing on today. Great news.

I corrected the issue yesterday but was waiting for a review by Roger of the solution before announcing the fix. Good catch Greta. I could give a long technical explanation of what caused the issue but I am sure that would put most people to sleep.

Please post here is this issue creeps back up, it shouldn't but you never know.
