What email do you use, DeniceC? Mine is set to an aol account which I need to leave alone. Another list I am on has had ongoing issues with aol- Lenitus, you might want your techie to read this to see if this is similar to what you are dealing with (hope it helps): Quote:
Dear listmembers,
I just want to make you aware of some of the problems that I am currently having which may result in some problems with users from AOL. Rest assured that I am trying to work through these problems and I hope to have a solution in place by next week. Unfortunately this solution is going to involve spending additional $$.
The problem arises because spoofers are using aol.com and other addresses to send messages to my server to the command interface. Unfortunately, because of the way the command interface works, Postini is not scanning these messages so they are getting to my server. My server is answering these commands with a do not understand your command message which is an appropriate response. Unfortunately these messages are then going to the aol.com user who is being spoofed and they are complaining to aol which results in my lists being blacklisted. When this happens, mail from the XXXX server will be blocked when going to aol. This has affected the XXXX and XXXX lists but as far as I know XXXX has not been blacklisted, (this list is delivered by another ip address).
In order to stop this and allow aol members to get mail again from XXXXX, I have blocked input from aol from reaching the list. So right now if you send a message to the XXXXX server from aol it will be rejected. If aol is not your email provider you are not affected. If you are using aol you will have to go to the web interface to post a message.
I am going to replace Postini with a new spam filter provider in the next few days. Once I do that, I will once again allow messages from aol.com to enter the XXXXX server. Since these new service will also look for viruses, I am going to allow attachments again since they will be filtered and checked for viruses. Also the attachment checkers for lyris are not that good. I also think this will fix the Blackberry issue since it appears that the text was mangled by Postini and not Lyris. In addition to these changes, I am going to be changing the website for XXXX which I am currently working on and expect to have ready in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for that. Remember to check our the RSS feeds for the XXXX discussion lists which are really nice. If you go to the website you can set that up so that messages from the list will be pushed to your web browser as an RSS feed.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused but delivering large amounts of email has become increasing difficult in a world full of spammers. The measures used to prevent spammers also interfere with the delivery of desired email.

email with local cable company, not aol
I logged out and logged back in and was shocked to see the "fresh look." I had forgotten all about it. Quickly changed back to the old familiar look. Yes, my name is Denise and I am afraid of change.

"you mean move my account to a different email address and then back?"
No, not that drastic. I'd guess that this won't work, but I wondered if there would be a chance that toggling your email address in "My Control Panel/Edit Email & Password/New Email Address" could possibly fix the problem. Lenitus? I'm really fishing here...

^^ Toggle it?? I tried removing it and then retyping it. No luck. I think its probably an issue similar to what I posted above. One of the professional listservs I am on has this issue periodically (as described).

I was able to locate a discussion board yesterday about a vBulletin forum having issues with notification e-mails. His diagnostic results were even the same (i.e. everything was supposedly fine, but not all members were getting their mails). Sadly, no one answered his question as to why it seemed to be hit or miss
Thanks for the input, jym626. I'll continue to look into this with our techs.
Oddly, I keep getting notifications: Quote:
Dear Lenitus,
vossron has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - No notifications? - in the Community & Forum Issues forum of College Confidential.
This thread is located at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/...-new-post.html
Here is the message that has just been posted:

And I keep getting them for this thread.
jym, have you tried re-entering you email address (maybe entering a different one and then back to yours)? Gone fishing....

There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.
All the best,

Lenitus,
You might possibly have to contact the provider to unblock the domain and sender if it was accidentally "blacklisted". Here is another notice I received from my professional listserv a while ago when this first started happening (note: the message I sent you above is more recent than this one. This may be old news) Quote:
Dear Listmembers:
We have traced the problems that we are having with the list. The cause of it is that we are receiving tens of thousands of spam email each day. This is clogging our system and preventing legitimate email from reaching our list server. XXXX has been less affected than other lists because we have a backup mail service, but this has delayed email from reaching the list. This situation cannot continue. For one thing our backup mail server provider is concerned about the large volume of email it is handling and has threatened to stop providing this service. In order to prevent this, I am changing how email will be handled. All email going to our list will now go through an email checker that will filter out viruses and spam. It is possible that our legitimate mail may on occasion be filtered. I ask your patience as I work through this problem. This service will also increase my costs of running this list. It is because of the irresponsible spammers who are interfering with email that is making these actions necessary.
I urge all of you to take the following actions:
1) Do not purchase anything from unsolicited email as this just supports spammers which is why we have these problems.
2) Do not complain about email from our lists to your isp (Internet Service Provider such as Yahoo, Gmail, AOL etc) as this will only result on our list being blacklisted which will prevent you and other members from getting our posts. If you don't want to get our posts any longer just unsubscribe from the list and I will be happy to remove you.
It is my hope that these problems will be resolved shortly and things will return to normal. Thank you for your patience.
| **** what they explained is that if some posters decided they wanted to stop getting email notification or wanted to stop participating on the list, instead of unscubscribing or changing settings they simply earmarked the email as "spam" and it went to their spam folder. However, this caused other people with the same ISP to stop getting email b/c it was earmarked as "spam". Hope this helps.

So we are still seeing the issue? We moved the email processing on a much more stable environment this week. That should have fixed the issues but there may be something else going on. We will continue looking at this.
Please continue reporting issues as you see them. We are trying to make CC the best user experience that we can and you (the user) play a big part in that.
