When I was in college, we had cleaners who not only cleaned the common areas and bathrooms, but actually did dusting/vacuuming in the dorm rooms themselves. I gather that this is not typical.

But is there someone who cleans the common areas and bathrooms, or do students share this responsibility? In a suite-style dorm, are the students who share the bathroom responsible for cleaning it? Is there a vacuum cleaner, broom/dustpan etc. that students can borrow to clean their own rooms?

I was on west campus, so I don't know if this is the same in the freshman dorms, but the bathrooms in the halls and suites were cleaned, trashes cleared, and stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap once a week. You clean your own room, take out your own trash/recycling. You can checkout a vacuum from the front desk, though they aren't the greatest.

what Beeb26 said also applies to the freshman dorms. the vacuum was kept in some kind of storage closet in Balch, if I remember correctly.
