Cornell Supplement the dream towards material science

Here is a international student. I am strongly looking forward to entering Cornell Univeristy Material Science& Engineer College and thus write a DIY essay. And I want someone to give suggestions for my supplement. Thanks!!!

sorry to put the essay on

College of Engineering:
Tell us about an engineering idea you have, or about your interest in engineering. Describe how your ideas and interests may be realized by - and linked to specific resources within the College of Engineering. Finally, explain what a Cornell Engineering education will enable you to accomplish.

Watching the model ship travelling in the lake, I embrace with my instructor and firmly grasp the remote controller of the ship. Although I devoted all my leisure time to create this model ship, it was still an arduous and exhausted time for me because of its complexity. When the great self-fulfilling pervade in my heart, I recall the experience of falling love in the model ships.

When I was a primary school student, I was keen on the model ships. I took part in many DIY model ship races but failed in all. After the last race, I realized my weakness of no advance model ships and decided to create the best model ship, FSR-026. Although I designed the ship successful with the cooperation with my peers, there were numerous challenges in the process of the creation of the model ship: the diameter of the iron rod for keel did not fit the hole; the engine’s large weight greatly influenced the maximum velocity the ship could achieve; the target chassis could not be bought in the shops. But luckily, my friends and I came up with innovative solutions: I found a rotating machine in school lab to cut the outer surface of the rod; I bought a chassis which was larger than expectation to match the weight of the engine and also solved the problem of not expected chassis. When the model ship was created, we placed it in the lake to test its performance, which eventually achieved my expectation.

As I grew up, my interest towards the engine has transferred from model ships to the material science. At the first time I saw the heat isolating coating, I was shocked by its incredible property, which enabled human being to be immune to the extremely high temperature released by the electrical welding with the help of coating which was thinner than one centimeter. Years later, I was fascinated by the nanotechnology. The creation of the nanoscale robot sparked my imagination of the future of the robot, which would be totally different from and more advanced than the clumsy ones depicted in the literature work; the nano-ceramics showed its great potentials, ranged from the application in housing to the usage in outer-space; because of extremely small size, carbon nanotube hade several perfect properties, indicating its enormous commercial potential and scientific development capacity. Witnessing all the amazing benefits the nanotechnology, I made the decision to devote myself in the material science in the future career. The highest levels of mathematics, physics and chemistry I got in my A-level course as well as three full marks in SAT subject test gave me the confidence to learn material science and not fail in the exam. And if I have the fortune to enter Cornell University Material Science&Engineering, I would like to study nanotechnology to benefit the society by explore the potentials the nanotechnology has and also reduce the imperceptible yet fatal damages the nanotechnology brought with.

As for the reason why I choose Cornell University, I think it is these two reasons that I strongly look forward to furthering my study in Cornell University. First, Cornell University has global reputation in the material science so that National Science Foundation (NSF) authorized Cornell University to lead the most important program in nanotechnology, National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN), among other twelve reputed universities. This program not only showed the leading position Cornell University occupied in the world, but also reinforced the academic standards by pumping capitals and the chance approaching shared resources. Second, for me, Advanced Materials Enabled Innovation Competition program offered by Cornell University Material Science&Enginerring is one which turns students’ ephemeral inspiration into practical plans and then applied their skills into commercial projects by team cooperation. With the determination of applying the nanotechnology into the world and the desire to transfer the innovative ideas into the real products, I deadly want to join the Advanced Materials Enabled Innovation Competition program, which would offer me the stage to achieve my goals.
