Hi, I've posted this before, but I really need to know what you think! I'm signed up for the SAT on Saturday October 6th, I'm going to sign up again for the ACT for late October, then I have one final chance. For my last SAT date, should I try to take the SAT or subject tests???? Which score is more important to improve? I'm not sure how well I can do on the subject tests. Please help me. Hello, I'm going to apply for ED to the CALS. I would like to see which scores you think I should submit to give me the best chance of admission. I know my scores suck, but I just want whatever would give me the best chance. I'm going to retake the ACT one more time, and I'm taking the SAT two more times. Here are my scores
SAT I: Reading : 590 Math: 600 Writing: 610
SAT I: Reading: 610 Math: 590 Writing: 680
SAT Subject Tests : Bio E: 500 Math I: 560 US History: 590
ACT: Composite: 27 English: 26 Math: 26 Reading: 30 Science: 25 (this was extremely hard on the September test) Combined English/Writing: 26 Essay: 9/12
Listen, I know my scores are TERRIBLE and don't come close to matching the high caliber that this school has to offer, but please just tell me what you think my plan of action should be. Remember, I'm retaking the ACT once more. I'm taking the SAT again, and I have another SAT date to sign up for. I'm not sure if I want to retake the subject tests because I'm not sure if I would be ready for them. Also, the CALS does NOT require them.......thank you.

There is a point to which retaking standardized tests becomes overkill...I would take the SAT again in October and the ACT if you really want/have to. I think the ACT registration is long overdue by the way. If you're applying to CAS then you need two SAT IIs from different subjects (you should really try to get above a 700 preferably above an 750). But you said you are applying to CALS so don't even worry about SATIIs at all. In the long run, standardized tests aren't everything. Cornell (and all colleges) will see that you have spent a tremendous amount of your time on SATs instead of the more important things, which is bad. GPA, teacher recs, essay and extracurriculars are just as if not more important. If your GPA is really high (top 10% of your class) then you have a better chance. Also, have you taken predominately AP and honors classes?

Yes I have taken mostly upper level classes (AP and honors). I am also number 10 in my class ( top 3%). I am registering for the ACT today (it is the last day to sign up for the late deadline).

What SAT or ACT score do expect to achieve? And why do you think that it will be different this time?

...not everything but not many applicants are going to be accepted to Cornell with a 1210 SAT (without a hook).

csdad is right -- about 13% of the 2011 entering class had below 600 on the SAT-R and 5% lower than 600 on the SAT-M. Realistically, one could not be optimistic about OP's chances if the SAT does not improve.

...and the majority of those 11 & 5%ers had a hook, recruited athlete, family is major donor, family owns a large farm that works with Cornell Cooperative Extension, etc.
