There are Pros and Cons to each type of room (This is from what my college buddies have told me, I haven't experienced any of them yet):
For singles, you get privacy (a HUGE advantage). Sometimes you just want to study when your roomie wants to play video games, or sometimes you just want to sleep, but you just can't ignore your roomie who's getting it on with someone (This better not happen to me, I'll be a very ticked off person). Downsides include being by yourself, especially if you're not a very social person. If you're the type of person who doesn't talk very much, doesn't go out and initiate conversations with other people, etc. etc. then having a roommate(s) is like getting [an] instant friend(s).
I personally might opt for a single because I can talk non-stop to people. I think my hallmates will be my instant buddies. Plus, I snore, talk in my sleep very often, and occasionally (maybe once a week or so) I actually yell and shout in my sleep
I don't know how many people would appreciate that in a roommate
