Dorm Room Photos

Found some old pics online of the inside of a Balch Hall dorm room.

Pics from trip and NY 56k beware - SEMB Muscle Car Club

Once you get to the page, just scroll down a little to see them.

I am guessing by the lines of the ceiling, this must be a top floor room. I can't believe how big it is. I sure hope my room is that big.

Balch Hall, Interior on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Another interior pic, same type furniture as above, so we can assume that that's pretty constant. It looks like convenient stuff... Better than what else I've seen in dorm rooms anyway. The table with the drop leaves you could probably actually eat at! Woo!

DSC_7922sephia2 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Balch lounge at night- possibly a piano in the background?

elevator on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Possibly the elevator.

That's all I could squeeze out of Flickr.

Ooh! If you go on the Class of 2013 website, Class of 2013 - Cornell University and log in, go to housing on the lower left, Balch, and then picture tab along the front, there's a bunch of the lounges and a few rooms and such, plus you can see your hallmates!

I found this site this morning

Campus Life Facilities Maintenance Request

I guess this is where you go if you want to request your bed to be lofted and other stuff like that. Anyway, if you go through the steps, you will get to a list of all the rooms in Balch. If you find your room, you will find out if it is a small, regular or large single. Doesn't say a lot about it, but that is better than walking in on move-in day to find out you have a small single, I guess.

Thanks, suzie! Looks like I have a "regular" single...still not totally sure what that means in terms of size haha, but it's better than a small single I guess?

Haha, everyone says the rooms are really big, and it looked like 90% of the rooms were regular, so I suppose that's not a bad regular?

yeah...plus singles just seem bigger because you don't have to share the space with anyone

How much space under the beds

I was wondering if anyone knows how high off the floor the beds are in Balch.

I am planning to get risers for sure, but want to make sure that the trunks I am buying to sent my Ds stuff in will fit under the bed with the risers.

Thanks

my bed happened to be raised maybe 4 or so feet off of the ground...being 5'1 i had to get a running start to get on it! and i still had bed risers

the other beds are maybe 2' off of the ground (normal bed height i guess). with or without bed risers, the under the bed containers will fit under there

^ thanks for that info.

The distance is important because i'm not really referring to the typical underbed storage stuff. Rather I am talking about storage lockers like those made by Contico. They are about 13" high. none of the beds in our house are that high off the ground, so I was thinking they beds in Balch wouldn't be that high either.

here are some of my pictures from freshman year:

Pictures by katherinepatrice - Photobucket

when looking at the hall picture, know that there was a large closet on the left (to the right of the door if coming through the door), a wardrobe behind a door with a full length mirror, a bathroom with sink/toilet/shower/tub, and the bookcase on the right.

i miss that room...

Wow, looks amazing! What was your room number, if you don't mind my asking?

someone said the beds in Balch were like 2' off the ground without risers. I noticed in your photos you have risers and they don't seem that high. Am I imagining things?
