just a quick off-topic question.. what temperature are the dorm rooms in the middle of winter? Do I need heavy, cotton blankets?

I think I have some research on this from the third grade that would help with this...

But seriously though, how much stuff is everyone bringing? I've pretty much bought everything I need here instead of waiting till i get there and i'm pretty sure i'm not coming home till winter break so I'm bringing:

-a suitcase full of clothes
-a packed backpack
-a backpack-size travel bag
-one of those clear plastic containers w/ sheets, a blanket and a pillow
-a laptop bag
-a printer (which isn't that big, but doesn't fit anywhere)
-a jug of detergent (which doesn't fit anywhere else)

is that a lot of stuff?

No. That's enough. You might want to leave the detergent at home.
If you're resourceful, you'll be able to survive in the jungle that is ithaca and make it to target to get some in town, along with an alarm clock, laundry hamper, etc etc. I bought most things I have at school today either in ithaca or online.

In all seriousness though, I was just moving into my room for this coming year today (I live off campus at a fraternity) and I was astounded at how much STUFF I've accumulated over the 3 years I've been here. Probably around 50 lbs of old notebooks and papers. all these old commemorative glasses from various events, various books, trinkets, paintings... clothing... useless home goods. Moving out next year will be a challenge.

laundry bag/hamper is the most important...i can tell you that target will probably be sold out...

detergent is useful, but i wouldnt bring one of those gallon jugs b/c chances are you will leave it in the laundry room and others will use it...bring detergent small enough to carry to and from room...else plan on getting it stolen/used by others...

oh and ask your parents/mom how to do laundry...i hate having to teach people how

oh and those little white softener towels are useful...i suffer from static cling way too much and without them i'd be fried constantly...

they also keep your clothes smelling fresh longer...

Hahaha or you could be like me and give up on all that and get laundry done by the pound down on clinton street.

I'm so lazy.

I would bring as much stuff as you can fit in your car. Who knows if you will be coming home on fall break, and it can be a pain to ship stuff. I brought all of my posters, bedding, summer and fall (with sweaters) clothing. I left pretty much only my heavy winter jackets. If you have space, use it. And if you think you might not need a shirt, bring it anyway.. you can use it for working out or party themes, etc.

As for laundry.. Clinton street is the ****. $1 per pound. However, I recently found a laundry service where they pick up your laundry at your house and deliver it back to you. I'll figure out the number and post it. It was really close in price to Clinton, but you should tip the driver a few dollars.

Jcas is correct in all details - the other service with the pickup/dropoff service is called colonial cleaners. Their prices (at least for mens) are comparable to Clinton street or cornell laundry - $1.00/pound for wash and fold and $2.15 for dress shirts pressed on hangers (5 or more shirts, I believe).

The only downside of the colonial cleaners place that they take cash or check only - no credit cards.

My house has an account with them now, so the people charge their cleaning to the house, the house pays it & delivery gratiuity, and then the people settle their debts with the house at the end of each semester... much easier than scrounging for cash.

6072737121. By the way I'm not sure if they'll do delivery to dorms, but you guys have RPU and appel anyways so I'm not sure if it matters.
