Don't be intimidated by the admissions stats. Be intimidated by Ithaca's winter weather. Now THAT's scary!

the winter's that bad? Is it simply cold or is it really rainy/windy/snowy?

^ It depends where you're from and what you're used to. If you're from New England, the Rockies or the Upper Midwest, it's not that bad. If you're from other regions of the U.S. or if you're an international student, you may be in for a bit of a shock. It's very cold and very snowy and the winter is long. But it's still worth it -- Cornell is a great school.
