I'm applying to CoE and I got a call, but my question is what does this really mean? I've been thinking that they would get those grades in mid-year grade report if we were be deferred. So if we were to be deferred, why would they call to get those grades now? Does this mean no deferrals for those with calls, or is this just optimistic thinking?

news flash to everyone who applied:

cornell always asks to see first quarter grades for every college. they just want to make sure that you are still keeping up with everything...not going from a 4.0 junior year to a 2.0 senior year. one C in one class isnt going to get you automatically rejected. seeing your first quarter grades is just part of the application process. even after you get in ED, they still need you to send a midyear report and your end of the year transcript, so your application isnt "complete" until they see all of your senior year grades. the admissions officers want to make sure that you didnt get senioritis and get straight Cs and Ds. just because you get in doesnt mean you can slack off

4.0 --> 2.0

ya thats me man!! but the thing is, everyone in my math class got an "incomplete" for that class, and thats a 0.0........ (college course, follow the college schedule thus no quarter grades) I just hope I have the chance to explain my situation a little bit.... but idk if my guidance counselor will just fax it over T-T

I don't think it is accurate that all of Cornell's colleges call for first quarter grades for ED candidates. I think my son's guidance counselor would have heard by now since decisions will be out in a little more than a week. When I asked him if Cornell had called, he said it was very rare (and our school has had ED candidates for Cornell in past years) for schools to request first quarter grades. One of my son's EA schools requires them, but no one else has. Definitely mid year grades are required and final year end grades are required however. How do you know all the schools require them? It seems like maybe Engineering does but it doesn't sound like a lot of other people have gotten calls.

when i applied to cornell last year, AAP wanted them. i didnt get phone call but im pretty sure it said on the application that first quarter grades needed to be submitted (on the list of things you shouldnt forget to include). they may have changed it this year but eventually, cornell, as well as other schools, will see the grades when they ask for a mid year report

I had a surgery in the first quarter and I missed about 3 weeks of school cause of that. That ended up affecting my ap physics and ap stat grades since I got Bs in them...now, my guidance counselor says that she will def. write a letter to Cornell telling them about my health related absences and its affect on my grades if i want her to......should I even bother with this ? (since I only have 2 Bs and the rest A-s/As/A+s)
by that way, Cornell hasn't asked for my grades yet...

The freshman application instructions only specify that they need mid year grades, there is nothing that says anything about wanting first quarter grades. I think it is either college specific or case specific but not across the board.

rohansingh2--If no one has asked you for first quarter grades, don't send anything. Besides those grades aren't bad for first quarter anyway.
