Hi,
I am planning to be an engineering major at Cornell,
but I was just wondering how hard it is for an engineering major to transfer
to another school, like CALS, CAS, or Hotel.

I am most likely going to pursue engineering all throughout my undergraduate years, but I am just wondering if there would be some other options available in case engineering does not work out.

Can someone verify this - once you decide to transfer out of engineering there is no turning back, as in if you are not accepted to other schools then you are out of Cornell? I think it would be an important point to consider.

no i think you would just have to stay in engineering

^I would imagine so.

When you do IT...you have 2 options

1.) You apply for direct transfer to the intended college and are accepted or not
2.) You apply for ITD sponsorship if your application has some weak points and you get a written guarantee from the intended new college as long as you fulfill the outlined requirements.

ITD will not sponsor you if it looks like you don't have a shot in heck of getting in...so you wouldn't have to worry about losing your spot in Eng.

My daughter got the information from her friends in engineering. They said it's different than other schools. The information may be incorrect, or they may have misunderstood. A few of her friends are not doing well in engineering and are seriously thinking about transferring. I tried quickly to search Cornell's site and couldn't find anything about it.

^^yeah, I tried to search as well and I couldn't find the info. I would imagine you would only be asked to leave if you're not in good academic standing. But, it would be a wise idea for your daughter's friends to discuss this with someone in engineering admissions.

I'm thinking about transfering, and I've talked to the different offices about it.

The reality is, you have to apply to the school you want to get in to. If you decide to apply to CAS, for example, and get in, and then you want back into engineering, chances are, you aren't going to get accepted back into engineering.

If they do not accept you upon application for transfer, then they can either reject you, or refer to you ITD for a semester, in which you take classes in the major/school you are trying to get into, and if you do well, and get your GPA to the minimum, they will accept you the next semester. If you are rejected, you can apply later.

from what I've seen, transferring from engineering to CALS or CAS is relatively easy... transferring from anywhere into hotel is difficult though.

I want to transfer from Human Ecology to CALS as soon as cornell starts in the fall. I don't know if I should do ITD or direct transfer ?

i don't really think that you can choose to "do itd". As far as I know, you have to apply direct transfer, and the only way that you get stuck in ITD is if you didn't get in by DT and they (the school you applied to) refers you to ITD.

Also, if you want to transfer in the fall, you would have had to go to a transfer meeting this semester, and already applied.

heyy... recently i have been admitted as a transfer student in cornell univ for the electrical and computer engineering prog in junior year....is it possible for me to switch from comp engineering prog to computer science prog.....n is it worth it??
