Rushing/Pledging - Scheduling (Planning Ahead)

I've been looking up on the pledging experience at cornell and it looks like 2nd semester it's a good idea to ease up on the work load lol. Originally my first semester was going to be my transition period (4 classes +PE) and second semester I was going to take 5 classes, assuming I got used to college. Now this is clearly not a good idea from what I've read. Now, I have 2 options, but I'm not sure what to do.

1) Take 5 classes first semester, to get some CAS req out of the way. Then take 4 classes 2nd semester. 31 credits for the year

2) Stay with my original 4 classes first semester, forget about making up for the 2nd semester. 5 classes is too much. Take 4 classes for 2nd semester. 28 credits for the year.

I'm placing in w/ 16 AP credits, so I only need 104 credits to graduate. I figure if I even went with 4 classes each semester I would still graduate with enough credits, so it won't be a big deal. But I don't know.

If any of you have gone through the pledging process, advice on this topic would be great!

the amount of time pledging takes up varies from fraternity to fraternity, depends which one you join.
