Cornell University Recognition Programs?

I just got this email about these three commitment programs... What is all that about? Sounds interesting but I really don't know what to make of it. Help!

Are you talking about Cornell Tradition, Rawlings Presidential Research Scholars, and Meinig Family Cornell National Scholars?

All three are awards given to exceptional students in the incoming freshmen class. The first for a commitment to community service, the second for outstanding academic and research potential, the third for outstanding leadership potential.

Each has separate requirements (Community Service Hours, Mandatory Research every Semester, and Leadership hours, respectively) and all provide some form of monetary reward to be factored in to your financial aid package.

do a lot of kids get these e-mails? Like, is it just like a generic "oh let's use this ploy to get more kids interested in cornell"?-message? (like the rest of most college mail...) I mean the programs sound great and all but I still don't really know what to make of it... hmm.

that's interesting. i never got emails about those programs as an applicant. and i was really confused/surprised when i got my acceptance letter and it mentioned CPRS. maybe its a new initiative to make the programs more known?

That's pretty cool! but I still don't understand what we have to do in order to apply... is it apart of the cornell supplement on commonapp or do we send it in separately?

There is no separate application or checkbox to mark to be considered for these programs. If you are accepted and the admissions committee thinks you are a special applicant, they forward your application to the Commitment office for their review.

I am not sure why they would send e-mails to pre-frosh about the programs, though.
