So I just realized I made several typos in my common app essay. My computer crashed the other day and I lost them so I had to retype them from hard copies. I didn't have anyone who could read over them and when reading your own work you often miss the typos since you know what's coming next. Now I've just realized I wrote "my" instead of "me," "need" instead of "needed," and and comma where a period should be. Now I'm freaking out. How bad will this look?! Especially Cornell ED?! Should I email the admissions staff? I'm hoping maybe it'll make me look human instead of sloppy.... seriously FML.
It wont look great but it'll look worse if you blatantly point them out in a email. I'd just let it go. I'd hope Cornell doesn't reject people on the basis of a few typos
i went to arts and sceicne info session and the lady was like, "make mistakes like spelling errors and your out".
if u send a email, they will probably send that info to you.
just have your fingers cross and hope they see your amazingness over thos few typos
I have the same problem! I made one minor typo! i said "boy" instead of "body"! but they should be able to tell what i mean...so i emailed the admissions office. hopefully they email me back tomorrow. oh and i also didnt say at the end of the common app that i was paying online b/c it didnt correct me when i submitted it. hopefully that was fine too.
I'm sure they won't automatically reject you over a few typos. If the rest of your application is good, I don't see why they can't overlook a couple of mistakes.
Hi my name is _________________ and my Common Application ID is _______. I recently submitted my application for the early decision deadline, and noticed a slight typing error in my essay, even though I had proofread the paper numerous times. I was wondering if there was anyway that the error could be corrected.
^that's a bad idea, especially with so many applicants this year. IMO, the admission officer will be like: "Are u f-ing kidding me. Stop making us do so much extra work." =P Or they could just be "Allright, no prob."
