College of Human Ecology Premed?

edited August 2012 in Cornell University
Did anyone manage to attend the HumEc Premed information session on Friday? I really wanted to go bit was unable to...
How good is human ecology in preparing students for med school? And will I have to get most of my prereqs done in the college of arts and sceinces? Will getting those classes be a problem from a different college? Basically whether or nor I go to cornell is determined by whether the college of human ecology can offer me more in getting into med school than the college of arts and sceinces of Washington University... Thanks for any feedback

FWIW, I know someone here socially, whose kid graduated from Hum Ec and is now in med school. So there's one data point indicating that this does in fact work.

That's all I have to offer though.

Not having studied the matter, I would presume that they both would provide you with preparation sufficient to get into med school, and whether you actually get in would depend on you. I would then spend some time considering where you wanted to be, and what you want to study, for the next four years. As well as any applicable financial considerations.

I was at the Hum Ec discussion yesterday with my son. The first young man stated his name his major, some of his experience and then said "and I will be attending Yale Medical School in the fall" The second young woman did the same and ended by saying" and I will be attending Columbia Medical School next year" The the third girl adder her experience ending in " I will be attending Duke Medical School in the fall". and on and on and on... Very thoughtful group. Very impressive all HBHS majors in Humec.

    Extremely good.

Some, but your biology courses will technically be in Ag. There is no problem in enrolling in any of these courses.
Will getting those classes be a problem from a different college?

    Nope.

What is far more important is what you are going to offer to yourself. That said, I do think the HBHS offers a unique perspective that med schools can appreciate.

What major and minor did these students that are accepted as med students take in HE? Also, what are the requirements for acceptance into this school?

You can major in anything in any college at Cornell and apply to med schools. I majored in a social science in Arts and Sciences, and I'm going to a top 20 med school this fall. I have tons of friends in HumEc that are also going to top med schools.
