Dartmouth compared to Duke reputation wise

So Dartmouth ripped my heart out with a deferal early, then stepped on it with a reject in the regular round. Then the rest of the Ivies came along and followed suit. (Yale, Harvard, Penn-Wharton, Columbia...WL Brown). Yet I wound up getting into Duke. So I was wondering what people thought about Duke's reputation compared to that of Dartmouth or the rest of the Ivies. Do people really regard it highly or is it like a step down?

That is a darn good reason. Duke is without a doubt a step down from the Ivies. I would rather go to University of Chicago, which to me (and the Princeton Review), is a step up from Duke.

Don't listen to that at all. If you look at placement stats, recruiting, etc Duke is right up there with the non-HYPS Ivies. Definitely an amazing school (and IMO way more balanced than Chicago). Its not a step down. Congrats!

Obviously, Dartmouth is a better school but Duke is almost as good as most ivy schools. Congrats on getting in to a great school!

Duke is not worse than the non-HYP ivies! It is very well known and highly regarded, and it's def not worse than uchicago; I think it's more broad and better. It's more prestigious than Cornell, def. and even upenn. I would place it at Dartmouth's level. it has a 84% med school acceptance rate and 98% law school rate for undergrads, compared with 70% med for cornell. So, there you go :]

grad school acceptance is no way to rank a school blindly. You can get a great education at anywhere a student of your caliber would go.

Duke is ranked higher in the country than some of the Ivy Leagues. It's definitely the best university in the South and it's highly regarded around the world.
