Cheerleading

Okay, let me preface this by saying that I come from the south where football is huge. I realize cheerleading isn't real big up north, especially at the Ivies; however, I've competed since first grade, and I LOVE the sport. Does anyone know anything about Dartmouth's cheerleading program? Is it coed? I've been unable to locate much on the website.

Oh yes, there is a cheerleading group. D has a number of friends who have cheered all 4 years. I know that they cheer for footbal, but I am not sure about basketball, etc.

fall of 06, no cheerleaders at all for football. last year there seemed to be a few girls attempting to cheer. the band has quite a few interesting and spirited members.

Yeah, what's the deal with the marching band? The brochure I got when I visited was like "Experience not necessary, only requirements are that you own a white shirt and pants (!), we'll provide a green blazer (!!)" Is the band any good? (Or at least, do they have a lot of fun?) Although the uniform seems lame, it sounds interesting enough. Just wondering what the deal is.

the marching band's not really a marching band, since they don't actually march.

like every other band in the ivy league (save cornell), the band is a scatter band, meaning they form shapes on the field in conjunction with a quasi-humorous narration via the PA system. The band plays 3-4 songs of ~1 min on the field during halftime.

The quality of the band is alright ... it's not the best marching band ever, but there are a bunch of quality musicians in it - a lot of members play in the Wind Symphony, the Barbary Coast (jazz), or play winds in an orchestra on campus as well.

The band always has fun, because the band always wins. Also, it's a really eclectic bunch of kids, so you get a lot of different inputs.
