Dartmouth Teacher Evaluations

I just saw this on another thread, and think it's really important especially after the recent events with the teacher who sued her students for discrimination.

Harvard Q | CUE Guide

"The CUE Guide is an annually published guide that reports the results of each semester's course evaluations."

Just wondering if Dartmouth has anything similar to this, would be really helpful I think

The Dartmouth Student Assembly has a Course Guide with student reviews, but I believe you need to be a current student to view them.

The SA guide is very very helpful in choosing and balancing your courseload. It's definitely a popular, comprehensive resource.

I don't think it's just a "good resource", it is THE resource. Never choose a course without looking it up on SA guide first... unless the course or professor is new (then you'll have to attend the class for a few days and decide if you want to continue).

yea, but you have to take the reviews with a grain of salt, since usually most classes only have like 2-5 reviews, and those are usually the people who HATED it or LOVED it ...

thanks for the responses
does Dartmouth send a course catalog to you over the summer so you can pick courses for the fall quarter or do we choose those when we get over there for DOC trips and orientation etc.?

I have no clue about the catalog, but there is a list of all of the courses and requirements on Dartmouth's site.

My son is a freshman now. From what I recall, he chose his fall classes toward the end of the orientation period the first week, after he met with his first year adivsor. Some freshmen also take placement tests that week so I don't think anyone chooses classes until those tests are over.

You choose your courses the week before classes start. There'll be placement exams, first-year advising, and departmental open houses during orientation week to help you. And I think you should be getting a first year handbook in the mail in a few weeks/months. It lists all the courses you can take in fall, so I suggest you go through the book.

The upperclass students are electing their fall courses now, by the way.

Thanks alot, yeah they said something about sending first-year guides and housing forms to us early June but nothing about a course catalog. Though as Gil says the courses will be in the first year handbook so should be fine. Oh and I know this isn't relevant to my first post but do you recommend getting a computer before heading to Dartmouth or buying one from their program? I was thinking about getting a macbook sometime soon but apparently it's easier if you get it from them?

I'm not very sure about this but I think you can get computer repair and maintenance services for free if you own a Dartmouth laptop. Otherwise, computer services will charge you the normal rate.
