As I understand it, a frosh has a choice of taking either 5 or 2 and 3. Is there some objective way of determining which path to take? I assume if you take 2 and 3, you are taking one extra class that could be avoided by taking 5. If you take a summer college writing course and do well prior to arriving, do you suggest taking 5?
If you placed into writing 5, take writing 5. There's not much of a decision here - I guess if you were dying to take writing 3 you could take it (it wouldn't count toward credits/your gpa), but that would be unusual, and I don't know anyone who did that.
I guess the confussion is over how you place there. That is my question, are you told where to go or do you make the decision yourself. How do you place in writing 5?
my son's writing background was really limited--really poor high school english curriculum.
he opted for writing 2/3 to help fill in any gaps in his background. worked well for him. the grade you receive at the end of writing 3 is also awarded for writing 2. it gave him an excellent footing for improving his writing skills--and gave him two really nice grades for his gpa.
