I have read that you don't have to drink at Dartmouth to be a part of things and have fun. What other things happen for entertainment besides frat parties, specifically, so no pong, water or otherwise. Or do people just hang out with friends in their rooms?

There is a lot of "casual" outdoor campy type stuff - i.e. skiing, swimming in the river, snowball fights, ice skating, sledding, etc. Also lots of cultural events every weekend. That plus just goofing off with people, hanging out at a coffee shop, going to dinner, etc. I found that there is actually less to do in the city at times.

What are some clubs that a lot of people belong to? Not DOC trips so much, but do clubs have weekend activities, etc. that are less of a time commitment then say, going on an overnight camping trip? Do you find that upperclassmen are inclusive/welcoming to freshmen? Is it difficult for women to find places to be on campus if they don't want to go to frats? Where do you meet people the most? Classes or clubs or frats?

Yeah there are tons of much more casual DOC clubs- like the organic farm, the climbers, the ledyard canoe club, cabin and trail people etc. Also lots of clubs ranging from theater, to ethnic groups, to people into film. These groups all often have different things going on. But beyond this many people don't actively participate in DOC clubs but tend to have a lot of fun outdoors around campus just with friends. Getting a group together to to go ice skating on the pond, for example, is pretty common. Or a bbq during the summer. There are also lots of non-frat off campus houses with different groups - some affiliated with clubs (like the sigar shack and acapella groups) and some not. There are lots and lots of places like this. Whether its ultimate frisbee players or the "commune" foley house.

People meet people everywhere. You meet people in classes, in your dorm, at club events, from DOC trips, study abroad, whatever. Its likely that you'll know many many people by graduation, Dartmouth is an extremely social campus.

Do you feel like there are cliques at the school? Houses off campus are sort of a situation where you need to know someone, right? What is the sigar shack? What is the commune foley house? Does a non outdoors , but also mostly non drinking type of person have a place to be on the campus on the weekends? Is there a list that says where and when clubs meet so people can be aware of what's up and join? What would you say the most continually active on campus groups are? Thanks!

There are cliques of course (like any school) but everyone is super friendly. Everyone is pretty much invited to every house party or event and clubs advertise like crazy. Its pretty hard to not find a club or activity to join. Dartmouth actually published an activities and party list every weekend so its hard to miss what's going on.
