doodahhh... if you have submitted everything and you are ED, I would definitely call the admission office or your contact in financial aid and inquire. It was maybe about a week past the ED admission deadline that the note on my son's account was updated to say they had everything they needed to review his application.

On a complete side note, however, I really liked the Ltr/number combo he was given as his login and password. I found it very auspicious, if you believe in that kind of thing.

i just got my financial aid stuff in on december 3rd, though. should i be expecting an email with my login and password? i really don't understand the bannerstudent thing. you're probably thinking, "wow this girl has no chance of getting in," but dartmouth doesn't publish anything to explain bannerstudent... not that i've seen, at least. thanks for your help though.

You don't need it to find out your application status. Dartmouth emails the decisions and posts them on bannerstudent, so as long as you provided a valid email on your app, you're fine.

You might want to call, though. I got my PIN after I submitted the Custodial PROFILE but before the NC PROFILE was submitted, so I don't think it has to do with FA. Although Admissions and FA are both in McNutt, the offices are opposite each other and I think that Admissions runs Bannerstudent, which means you should have gotten your PIN with everyone else. However, they might have misread your email address, so call to validate that so they can send a PIN to you.

1) While I don't know how fin-aid works with admissions, Dartmouth is need blind and so I would think the two are separate in most all respects.

2) Don't think you're a dope at all because I understand your banner student confusion:

Story: My son had been working on his common app online for D for a few days and you know how you can save and log out, save and go to the next page, etc.? Well, after completing most of it, but not uploading essays and stuff yet, he got that email from Dartmouth that said his application had been received. He just about flipped out.. and more or less did.. thinking he sent his entire application in prematurely and incomplete. He was so shaken that he couldn't even type in the password to find out what they were talking about. Once we sedated him (kidding) and I logged onto his account, it merely said they had received the pre-application and looked forward to the rest of his application. Once the color returned to his face, we all had a good laugh but for about 30 minutes I thought I was going to watch an 18 year old have a heart attack.

This said, if my son were in your position, I would have him contact his counselor and have her reach out to the school. But my kid goes to a private school that's fairly small (135 in the class) and they'd do that kind of thing. Oldest D went to public and I would have had to call the territory rep myself. I dont see where Dartmouth gives that information for their admissions reps, but if you don't hear this weekend, I think they would understand the inquiry on Monday. Simply say you believe all your information was in but you had not yet received confirmation -- which is what banner student seemed to do.

You DO need the pin and password to find out your decision. You need them to log on to banner student. They only will mail the date and time to check on banner.

Breathe Magdalyn, Breathe... you're gonna be okay!

You're seriously freaking out now. Like there is some sort of death penalty for taking an honest shot at getting in. They got rid of that clause during the seventies. You will be okay.

(in response to one of the earlier posts about likely letters)
I actually thought the likely letter was for RD applicants? They come out in February.

^I wonder what the odds are that you'd get a likely letter and then not get admission. Seriously, "likely" isn't "yes." While I am sure it is negligible if at all, it still leaves the window open.

My sister, and people I know who were rejected/deferred heard much earlier in december (5th-11th). So if you haven't heard that must be good news. Also, I have heard that the letters are all the same size, so dont freak if you dont get a big letter. ( I will anyway). And for those that didnt get interviews, I have a theory: If you were so under-qualified, you wouldnt have applied, if you were going to be deferred/rejected they would want an interview just to have some more info. So, wishfully thinking, if you dont get an interview, you are in. (I sure hope so, because I didnt get one). I just want to know if anybody has received a YES YOUR IN! letter yet?

I am thinking they let everyone know at the same time whether you're in, deferred or rejected. However, the interview thing mostly depends on what part of the country you live in e.g., their would be a smaller network in say arkansas or something. However, my son didn't have an interview set up through admissions but the teacher who wrote his rec is an alumni, so maybe they consider the "interview" unnecessary.

Charlie, I think it would be the other way. They have so many great people, they can flat out reject some without a second thought-it's the good ones they'd need find out more about.

I honestly think it's just about location. I was told at a local meeting that only 1 out of about 90 applicants from my area didn't get an interview last year, because there weren't enough interviewers available. Either way, don't take not having an interview as a bad sign.

okay

When exactly is our decision coming? The access thing-bannerstudent or whatever-doesn't say anything! Does that mean that I'm rejected? I really have no idea. I know Cornell is now on the 11th, and it isn't coming out today....is it????

Cornell and Brown are out on the 11th.. UPenn is on the 13th.. Yale is on the 15th.. I don't think Dartmouth and Columbia have given dates yet..
