As a Mom of an 09 - good luck to all, I don't have to tell you that dartmouth is a wonderful place.
Dartmouth ED is usually early, like 9 through 11.

they are probably not likely to crash, but it could overload and you'd be unable to log on and would have to keep trying. I saw where Georgetown are sent a real letter .. all envelopes same size and expected to arrive on Friday. Which do you think is more unnerving.. ripping open a tangible envelope or trying to get a web site to open?

So will the system crash if everyone logs in at once? or have they prepared for that?

This is actually a great question- I'd prefer the envelope in either instance. This way you can shove it in your parents' faces as soon as they get home if you get in, and if you don't, this way there is somewhat of a cushion. You see the thin nature and prepare for what's coming. It's gradual-not such a drastic. As for the thick envelope, it's like a drum-roll. I'd definitely prefer this.

I don't think they do thick and thin anymore. It's all very project runway (you're either in or you're out) and they send you the rest of the stuff later.
Still.. there's the tangible feel of the envelope vs an hour glass and BAM! it's in front of you. Either way, it's a killer, but I think computer is worse too.. although you're not at risk of assaulting a postal worker because the envelope came late!

I was (almost) right. It's always around the last day of the term!
Wednesday is the last day of finals, and thursday is the last day of being in the dorms.
Good luck to all!!!
Original.peace, you get a letter online. Just print it out for your parents. There generally isn't too much lagging on their servers for ED. There's only 1500 people trying to log on (not all simultaneously either).
Also, let me be the first to make you your customized countdown timer: Customized counter |

I know. It made me so nervous last year.
I'm also kind of a nerd (trust me, everyone at Dartmouth is at least closet nerd), and I took a screenshot of the timer as it was one or two seconds away from ED results time. (So that I could better remember the moment if I got in). lol

I had an epiphany last night while my S worked obliviously on a paper. No matter what the results: accept, deny or defer, my kid is really a great kid and college admission (to anywhere) is not changing that. So.. I can't imagine saying anything other than "I am so incredibly proud of you for going after something you really wanted." This is the absolute truth and the bottom line is that I honestly want him to really aspire to always take the (calculated) risk to go after what he wants. And he did exactly that.
I know he's hoping for the best, but totally prepared for the worst (although as of this morning, he is still thinking it's next Monday - the goof!).
Going grocery shopping today for a kick *** dinner for tomorrow night. Am going the total comfort food route. H is going to be out of town.. ugh.
