Aid and strengths

Hi all,

My junior s is starting to compile "the list". So hard to believe for me. Anyway, he is looking at Davidson as a possibility, but I am concerned about its private school cost. I read somewhere on one of the many threads I have been looking at on cc that Davidson is trying to cut out loans altogether (limiting loans right now?) and that they are a school that has the potential for good merit aid. Does anyone have any information about this? Also, does Davidson have a good science and art department for a small LAC? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Loans are currently capped at $12,000 (total for 4 years). They're trying to get rid of them entirely, but I don't think that has been officially announced yet.

Sciences at Davidson are exceptionally strong, and its neuroscience program is fairly unique among LACs. According to the chair of the chem department, approximately 90% of science majors get into their first choice for graduate school, and medical school placement is excellent. I was *extremely* impressed with the quality of the well-equipped science facilities. Arts, especially theater and music, are also strong.

Thanks warblers for the information. I went on their website this evening and looked into the financial aid/merit scholarship money. If a kid "has the right stuff" and is fortunate enough to be awarded one of the bigger scholarships, it looks like a real gem. We are definitely interested in visiting and learning more about it.
