Wow! Not exactly a mad rush to enroll....trouble ahead?
Is Davidson losing candidates due to its inflated promises regarding generous financial aid, merit aid and no loans? What a joke. Apparently all these middle class families are "rich" enough to afford a $200K college education. Only 40 or so on - ED students enrolled as of late April - time to dip into the full pay wait list and give all those rich kids a crack at Davidson.
Not really. Just having some fun. I think this whole college application process is insane so I like to highligh some of the sillier, sadder things I come across.
i've been finding the complaints odd, considering how satisfied i was with my aid. we have an income that would just about be considered middle class. comfortable but by no means wealthy. and plenty of money in assests because my parents save. my offer was a grant for over 30k which included 2k work study- no loans. and i got all my forms in late!! this was all based on need, i didn't get any merit even though i applied for two merit scholarships.
perhaps our definition of middle class is very different, but i think davidson is doing a great thing. they have made my dream school a reality for me.
i think the low retention rate can be explained with all the other highly selective schools davidson applicants have been admitted to, and they are going there in lieu of DC. they have been so picky this time around that all the superstars they let in probably had ivies on their list. davidson was personally the best school i applied to :P
also, the bitter guy's info has certainly changed, as many people wait until the last week of april to decide. i doubt they'll dip all that heavily into their waitlist given that they accepted no one last time around off the WL
I think if they didn't get as many people as enrolling as expected (see the feed about General/Merit scholarships that's recently gotten a lot of hits), they could end up using the wait-list pretty heavily. But it'll take a few days to weeks to know.
I know someone who was accepted off the wait-list his year (graduated high school in '07) and he was notified while he was taking one of his AP exams...haha his phone went off and he almost got in trouble for it!
