This is kind of a tricky one to answer because it involves making a lot of generalizations.
I've found that freshmen and sophomores, both guys and girls, are more interested in hooking up, while juniors and seniors are kind of over that craze of being in a place with lots of other hormonal adolescents like themselves, and they tend to be more likely to settle down. Guys are probably more likely to want hookups through all of college. I'm making a huge blanket statement here, because you'll always find loads of exceptions in each age group...but this is mostly what I have seen in my personal experience.
At Davidson, there are people who date casually, but I think it's much less common than people hooking up or going steady. Most of the people I know who are in steady relationships have been in them since early first semester freshmen year. And then you get the kids who hook up with a new person each weekend. That said, casual dating or playing the field is not unheard of.
A lot of people seem to wait to actually date until they've been there a semester. It seems a lot of people end up going out with people they've already known for a while as friends at Davidson. Again, it's a generalization, but I think those relationships tend to last longer than those forming from hook-ups.
Some come to school with a significant other at home or at another school (you'll find this at every college). Usually those relationships have about a half-and-half chance of lasting.
The one thing I will say is that people are often cautious/guarded about/when entering into a relationship, because Davidson is a small school and if there's a nasty break up...they'll probably someday have a class with that person, or live in the same building the next year, or have a class next to them. That sort of thing. You can mostly avoid someone at Davidson, but it's not easy haha
A lot of girls I know who are dating someone not in their class are dating older. Guys dating out of their year are dating younger. Again, there are plenty of exceptions. I'm just thinking of the people that I know.
I'm sure if you talk to other Davidson students, you could get variations on these answers, or even entirely different perspectives.
