at last someone opened new topic here...
I've no idea how many they send out, but I'm excited to get know somebody applying to DS.
are you going to apply?
I got one from Deep Springs a few weeks ago; surprised me. I've never heard of this college, seems like a good program. It's tiny though, and the work/all guy thing kinda freaked me out.
However, I like how it focuses on speaking/writing more than science/math. The prestige and acceptance rates at other schools also amazed me.
I got the same brochure, and I fell in love.
I am for sure applying, but I'm a little worried about the book list. I'm really a math/science/social studies person, and english is not my favorite. I think my list of books is both too short and not rich enough...
My understanding is that they send out brochures to the top 2% of SAT scorers--male only, of course. I could be wrong though.
I'm glad to see the new season's Deep Springs threads starting up. I read over some of them last year, but now I'll be able to meet others who will be applying with me.
Im really surprised there are so many deep springs applicants on CC... considering how few there are.
my book list is pretty much all required readings, save a book of short stories, one or two novels and a couple harry potter books. That cannot be good.
I was also wondering if anyone knew how many people they ask to complete part two of the application?... I don't want to get my hopes up, but i'm really hoping make it.
and not to monopolize this thread, one more thing. How does one begin to answer the second essay question? Am I the only one who has tried, failed, and is now completely lost?
It's crunchtime, that's for sure! I've been cranking them out over the last three days because next week is finals week and I need the weekend to study. At this point I have them all written but I'm 600 words over between the first two prompts so I'll have to do some major trimming.
How about you? Which prompt did you find most difficult to write on?
Im dying on the first one, "tell us about the most influential aspects of your experience and environment"
I have a really bad answer for it, and Im going to be fixing it this weekend. I hate to say it, but I'm going to be mailing mine at the last possible moment.
Yeah, I'm pushing to get mine out on the 13th but it's been a battle. I realized I'd forgotten a major part of my response to the first essay and added it after my last post. I ended up being 1100 words over and now I'm trying to cut all the fat I can find and condense everything else. I had trouble with the same essay as you did, but my problem was I wrote a 2100 word answer.
I was hoping to get my App. out today, but unfortunately I did not. I'm still waiting on one more person to send me peer revisions on my essays.
Going to have to personally put it in the post office reception area (for personal assurance, for some reason i keep thinking that the USPS will fail me directly on the day it has be postmarked by).
