Anybody working on applications for Nov 15 deadline?

Just wondering who has decided to apply this year. Anyone working on the app right now?

actually yes, as of this very moment. i decided to go ahead and apply today. it's a really tough application because i'm going into some of my life issues that are a lot deeper than the two page "why university X" essays. tough stuff.

have fun, cool cat
perhaps we'll see each other fall 2006

You won't see me, but my son wants to apply - not sure if he has the time to put into this. Good luck to you!

thanks. i know that deep springs is going through smaller applicant pools each consecutive year. i hope your son really does apply because the school really deserves qualified applicants. i wouldn't want to be accepted simply for being one of the few to apply.
best of luck/fun

Is that so (smaller applicant pools)? How many do you think apply? Why do you think that is? My son just found out about DS this fall, when a teacher suggested he should consider it (he also received a mailing from them, but we don't always pay attention to the college mailings). Where else are you considering? Is DS your first choice? As a parent, I have a few reservations (the isolation, the intensity, the small, but crucial, core of students - could be a good mix or not), but it really would be a unique and amazing experience.
Thanks for your reply.

it seems pretty obvious that the applicant pool is really self-selective, and I've learned a bit about DS's struggles to attract applicants after reading some of their news letters. i'd guess (and it really is a guess) they receieve 200 applications a year (13+/- actually accepted).
my application list consists of swarthmore, pomona, brown, brandeis and the UC's but I'm holding off about first choices until i find out where i've been accepted. that includes DS because i don't think i could possibly decide about it unless i made it through the first round of admissions and visited the school itself.
i understand all the reservations you have as a parent and i'm sure your son has his own. after checking out their pretty amazing website, you should be able to get a feel for the school. I haven't gotten in touch with anyone at the school since i figure that getting to the second round of admissions will give me an opportunity to check my reservations.

I mailed it off today...I'm nervous!

My essays were all on the short side, but very good, I think. We'll see!
