Anyone got notification yet?

I've been waiting all week....still nothing. Urgh, this does not bode well.

I haven't heard either. I think the telluride association actually sends out acceptances in email before the rejection formal letters reach applicants. I hope DS doesn't do that, because applicants who applied to the TASP camp were really annoyed that the acceptances/rejections were received at different times. Word gets out, so wouldn't that defeat the point? Rejectees get the bad news twice, anyway.

So, I'm still waiting. But I have one perk. . . I already got into my ED school, Columbia. . . .

I didn't get very good finaid at Columbia. If I get into Deep Springs (round 1), which is highly unlikely, I think. . . I'll have really tough decisions to make. I love both schools so much, but I was confident enough that I wouldn't get into DS, and stressed out enough about the prospect of a long list of RD applications, that I applied to Columbia ED. I wonder what would happen, now that I got into Columbia, if I go to Deep Springs (free, and totally amazing besides that) and then try to transfer back to Columbia after my two years at DS. For now, I need to keep the money situation in mind, but I might make it impossible for me to go to Columbia later.

Nothing still....do they have to be so vague with "second week of december"? It'll be a rejection no question at this rate.

Same here.

At least we know they're being deliberate about it and thinking hard about which applicants to invite into round 2. We also know that the students probably get loads of work to do there in addition to their ApCom duties. Both good things.

And I was so sure I was going to hear today. Some people may have heard already. I'm always wondering about that.

Why do people visit and not say anything?!

WE BOTH GOT THE PHONE CALL!

A member of the Deep Springs ApCom just called me and gave me the good news: I'm a finalist! And so too apparently is Jono! This is so cool.

Deep Springs, Round Two

Nice to see that other people are actually applying to this crazy dreamland of mine! Well, very good to meet you guys, if only through words on a screen. I got that wonderful phone call yesterday as well, and so I'm in the same happy boat as you two. Ready for round two, guys? (Hell yes, baby!) Best of luck to you vig180 and Jono in your second stages.

Let's keep each other up to speed with any info we get, so we can be better informed about the school and therefore more able to gain glorious admittance.

Our son Max got his call for Round Two on Monday evening while he was in the middle of doing his radio show at his HS. He'd gotten a thumbs up from another good school earlier in the day.

The other kid from my school who applied is also into round 2 now. He got his call yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting those essay topics, my chance to get into this amazing school. . . . I didn't get them in the mail yet, but I probably will tomorrow, since they were sent on Monday morning.

The mailing with the essay topics arrived here yesterday. One topic in particular should require some actual sweating over the forge.

Two kids from the same school applying? I can hardly imagine. I'm certain I'm the only one at my school appling, and I'd be pretty surprised if anyone in my whole school district were also applying.

Are you guys from a public school or a private school?

I come from a public high school myself.

Once the holiday break begins I will try to convince my kid (Max) to post here. At present he's still swamped with too much work to go online. His school is private, in Pebble Beach. Another candidate among the "second rounders" also attended the school. He graduated several years ago and has been at Columbia. We've known a couple people over the years who went to DS. One came from a very rural public school in upstate NY, and another from a Prep here in California. Looking at the list of this year's candidates I was surprised to see so many from California. At least at my kid's school I think they were genuinely perplexed as to why somebody with his numbers had no interest in Stanford and listed a cattle ranch in Sierras as his first choice school.

As the only Southerner, I proudly represent the great state of TN and the wonderful public school systems of Memphis. (Right....) Can't wait to get out to Deep Springs, but it's going to take up a lot of time and money. Oh well, if it pans out in the end it's well worth it. Now to get started on these essays...

More people from California end up going there, too. DS is probably more known out there, and northeasterners have a little snobbery going on with their ivy league and liberal arts colleges. . . . A lot of people from new england only apply to schools here.

Guys. . . . I'm gonna go to Columbia. . . . I don't know whether to be happy or sad, but I'm gonna call DS tonight or tomorrow.
