Deep Springs and Telluride Summer Program

Does anyone think their is a relationship between acceptance into the TASP program and admission to Deep Springs?

Does attending TASP give you a big advantage in the Deep Springs admission process?

SBDad,

I attended Cornell II for TASP last summer, and applied to Deep Springs this year.

While there are a few connections between the two institutions, they are not as extensive as one would expect.

I'll try to offer a more detailed response later.

SBdad,

While TASP and Deep Springs have similarly rigorous admissions standards, it is my opinion that they do not look for the same character traits in admissions. For obvious reasons, it takes a different sort of person to tolerate ranch life than to endure a rigorous academic summer program. Conclusion: attending a TASP does not give you a significant advantage in the Deep Springs admission process.

That said, there is one former TASPer at Deep Springs (Jacob Eigen). Additionally, there were at least three TASPers in the second round applicant pool (approx 40 people).

When considering admission to either Deep Springs or a TASP, the best advice I can give is that there is no set calculus. Both organizations pride themselves on selecting passionate, talented individuals, and both have selection processes that are not traditional.

Good luck to your son. If you have more specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
