SBdad,
While TASP and Deep Springs have similarly rigorous admissions standards, it is my opinion that they do not look for the same character traits in admissions. For obvious reasons, it takes a different sort of person to tolerate ranch life than to endure a rigorous academic summer program. Conclusion: attending a TASP does not give you a significant advantage in the Deep Springs admission process.
That said, there is one former TASPer at Deep Springs (Jacob Eigen). Additionally, there were at least three TASPers in the second round applicant pool (approx 40 people).
When considering admission to either Deep Springs or a TASP, the best advice I can give is that there is no set calculus. Both organizations pride themselves on selecting passionate, talented individuals, and both have selection processes that are not traditional.
Good luck to your son. If you have more specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
